Doch das Verdrängte taucht wieder auf, gerade wo es negiert wird. Im März des Jahres 1767 zieht die Geschichte eines etwa achtzehnjährigen Mädchens das Interesse von ganz Paris auf sich. Beschreiben wird es als scheußlicher Charakter in Gestalt einer Jungfrau. Verliebt in ein anderes Mädchen, hat es versucht, dessen Eltern zu vergiften. Im Hôpital-Général untergebracht, gab das Mädchen vor, eine Hostie anzunehmen, worauf sie sie mit Füßen trat und in die Latrine warf.
